Powder Ridge Ski Area Snowsports School - Lessons

On-going instruction is the best way to take your skiing and riding skills to the next level and saves you money while doing so.

At Powder Ridge we offer a number of programs for skiers and riders of all ages and abilities to suit your needs.

We have consecutive day programs and ones that meet weekly throughout the season.

Whether you are stepping into a pair of skis or on a snowboard for the first time or the 100 th time, we have instructors who can teach you the skills needed to progress to the next level and beyond.

A best buy is the Repeat for Success, a two day package including lift, lesson and rental for just $99.

Our Snowsports School, with over 100 instructors, excels in introducing newcomers to the sport of skiing, snowboarding and snowblading in a safe and comfortable environment, close to home. Our PSIA and ASSI Certified Staff are ready for skiers and boarders of all abilities.

* Group Lesson Age Restrictions:
Skiing :: Children must be 7 years or older to participate in a group ski lesson.
Snowboarding :: Children must be 9 years or older to participate in a group snowboard lesson.

 

** Private Lesson Age Requirements:
Skiing :: There are no age restriction for private ski lesson.
Snowboarding :: Children must be 6 years or older to participate in a private snowboard lesson.

Powder Ridge Park School

Come join the Powder Ridge Park School for instructions in the park! We will provide safe and fun snowboard freestyle coaching sessions on rails, boxes, jumps, spins and riding for riders 9 years old and older. The coaching will focus on the scheduled competitions that will be held at Powder Ridge so sign up for one session or multiple sessions and soon you will doing tricks that your friends wish they could!

The focus of the Powder Ridge Park School is to assist young riders in developing their snowboarding skills and techniques necessary to progress their riding and freestyle technique for competitions. Applicants must be intermediate level or above and must be comfortable riding blue terrain. All new applicants will be evaluated for program placement. 

The Park School will focus the coaching sessions on preparation for the Powder Ridge scheduled competitions. View our POWDER RIDGE EVENTS page to view the competition dates.

The Park school will offer coaching from 9:00 - 1:00 for the following sessions:

8 Half Day Sessions, Saturdays:
January 6, 13, 20 & 27, 2007
February 3, 10, 17, & 24, 2007

9 Half Day Sessions, Sundays:
January 7, 14, 21, & 28, 2007
February 4, 11, 18, & 25, 2007
March 4, 2007

Prior to each training session, the coaches will provide guidance in the safe use of freestyle terrain using the Smart Style Program. Also it is required that all riders wear a helmet during coaching sessions.

COACHING FOR RAILS

Coaches will break down movements into three parts: approach, take off and landing. The main focus will be on board balance and awareness.

Off Snow Techniques to focus on will be:

  • Balance drills - one footed, two footed and body position
  • Jumping drills onto boxes and rails
  • 90/180 spin drills focusing on quick feet and lower body control and rotation

On Snow Techniques to focus on will be:

  • Terms and definitions of maneuvers
  • 50/50 approach to rails and boxes
  • frontside and backside boardslides landings for regular and switch

COACHING FOR SLOPESTYLE

Coaching will focus on rails, boxes and jumps. Coaches will develop a core of freestyle maneuvers for the riders based on the individual skill level to be used in competition.

Techniques to focus on will be:

  • Terms and definitions of maneuvers
  • Jumps - straight airs
  • Jumps - spins 180's and 360's
  • Landings
  • Speed control for transitions from rails to jumps
  • Review of rail techniques

COACHING FOR BOARDERCROSS

Coaching will focus on speed, carving and jumps. Coaches will instruct students on how to develop an increase in speed and turning control in a course setting.

Techniques to focus on will be:

  • Start - pulling and timing
  • Turning - carving, edge control, and banked turns
  • Jumping - prejumping and pumping whoops
  • Speed - Increase speed comfort
  • Passing
  • Riding in a group

COACHING FOR BIG AIR

Coaching will focus on approach speed, maneuver and landing. Coaches will instruct students on speed comfort and develop maneuvers for big air jump based on riders' skill level.

Techniques to focus on will be:

  • Approach
  • Jumps - straight airs
  • Jumps - spins 180's and 360's
  • Speed control and landings

FULL 8 TRAINING SESSIONS:

$499 includes Park School Training and Lift Ticket
$399 with Powder Ridge Season Pass, Park School Training Only.

ONE TIME TRAINING SESSION:

$75 includes One Day of Park School Training and Lift Ticket.
$65 with Powder Ridge Season Pass, Park School Training Only.
